For many years,in the  dense  forests,

lived a tribal king  who had a daughter charming,

her smile was alluring,

her looks were beguiling …

The flora and fauna of the jungle,

adored  the beautiful one,

Because of  her love for nature and

the care she had for everyone!

Amidst the rich blossoms,

tall trees of kissing branches,

beside the wild creatures,

singing with cardinals,

she lived with her tribe ,

in the place so   surreal…

Once a mighty fierce king,

attacked the peaceful tranquil,

crushing and killing very being,

that came in between his marching…

Animals fled,flowers dried,

plants and trees got terrified,

Pleading to save ,they called their saviour,

the tribal king got enraged hearing their sounds griever!

Ahead he went with his small troop,

fighting till his last  breath in strife,

Alas! he could not face the powerful king!…

And got slained in defending!

It was the turn of the princess to come ,

for the rescue of her friends and clan,

With  zeal in heart and  strong willed emotion,

She darted and faced every crushing invading man…

Unlike her father, she cleverly managed to trap

her enemies into a maze

Surrounding and  attacking  from every side,

Inspite of few fighters on her side,

she managed to entrap and pin the king…

The arrogant ruler on discovering,

his captor to be a woman was shocked,

disbelievingly  he stared and gazed,

getting captivated in chains …with her charm mundane.

Regretting his faults and errors made,

he apologized before  the beauty of  Mali!

For a moment a silence prevailed,

Animals and woods,

awaited her bade…

She kept a condition along,

never will the king cross or trample even a thorn,

leaving his kingdom of desires,

he shall be a part of the tribal form…

Living like a normal being ,

In the lap of nature and destiny…

with full humility,

serving the world …

with

touch of  utmost humanity!

The king promised to abide by every word ,

willingly he stayed back to serve with her a different world,

Thus a princess ,compassionate and loving,

transformed a boisterous king into a man of purpose …

with her words and heart of silver streak…

  1. A great kindness of the princess not to revenge and to take the life of the king, and this has made the princess more than just a heroine, but a great leader of mankind.

      1. The story has a perfect ending, how to overcome our hatred and to forgive, and love. It sounds simple, but in the real situation, I do not think I have the capacity to be such a great leader, and that’s what I need to learn in life.

          1. I always like the words of Tagore, and about humble,

The service of the fruit is precious, the service of the flower is sweet, but let my service be the service of the leaves in its shade of humble devotion.

  2. This is a beautiful story of hope. After reading your poem, I was reminded of Malala Yousafzai, the girl shot down by the Taliban for her courage in speaking against their brutal suppression of girls’ right to freedom and education. I just wish, like the king in your poem, those terrorists had transformed their hearts! Anyway, there is always hope somewhere in the world. Your Princess of Mali, is in a way, Malala too.

    Beautiful poem 🙂

    1. Thank you so much for your wonderful comment! I wrote this one out of impulsion and did not know wher eit would end,but for sure, anything that ends with bloodshed or revenge cannot be the right one,so some hope is always left on for everything.Thank you for comparing it with Malala, she is a brave of her kind and Iam honoured if it makes a tribute to her.

  3. There is an interesting slight change in your style, with these ‘storytelling’ parables – or almost! It is fascinating, and so beautifully written. This is so exotic. I love that you chose Mali! – Really I do – it adds a flavour.

    1. I know there’s some change which I can feel too, but I dnt knw from where that name stuck in my mind, wasn’t sure either whether such place existed..and when I checked it was there in Africa! and I was amazed i had written about tribals only… and also about teh story that went on,without any preconception,it just flowed… Good ! everyone liked it!

  4. Awwwwww…..this is such a cute poem. They say that “Behind eveery successful man there is a woman”…..I would say “Behind every reformed man is also a woman”. You have brought out something so true to life dear…..I believe a woman makes a man more sensitive, kind and a better humanbeing.
